Dr Phil, televisions famed self help guru has jumped on the weight loss bandwagon with his new book: The ultimate weight solution. The book focuses on the reality of lifestyle changes needed to keep the pounds off for good. He says you have to understand what you think about yourself and your weight.

HOW IT WORKS: Dr Phil takes you step by step, learning to counter emotional eating, impulse eating, how to assemble a support team, and adopt an exercise routine.

His nutritional plan emphasizes food with a high nutritional yield for few calories. Sorry, no cookies on this plan. He has a way of telling you like it is and that you should be looking at yourself in a positive way.

Dr. Phil is not reinventing the wheel here, just reinforcing positive emotions. He believes that if your overweight then you are out of control.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Dr. Phil does an excellent job with behavior modification. This is important with any diet program. As much as we all love him, his program is lacking in areas.

His plan is a very basic, run of the mill diet book. It fails to shed enough light on proper food choices and why you should avoid certain foods like refined carbohydrates and trans fats, which are in a lot of foods we all eat. He also never touches on meal frequency or food combinations.

The Center for Science in Public Interest, a Washington D.C. consumer advisory group, blasts Dr phil's weight loss system.

Their review states Dr. Phil's system expects you to spend sixty dollars a month on a twelve pill a day regime.

His pills will lighten your wallet but not much more. His vitamins, health bars, and protein shakes can cost up to two hundred dollars a month.
