A new study by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences shows that it is possible to lose weight on a high carb, low fat diet.
Participants were allowed to eat complex carbs such as whole grain pasta, plenty of fruits and vegetables, crackers, and cereal. They were not limited in the amounts of these foods they could eat, but they were instructed to reduce fat intake.
Another group was allowed the same foods, but also included exercise 4 times a week.
A control group ate the same amount of foods in calories, but included more meats, cheeses, and fats, and less fruits and vegetables, and did not exercise.
The first group that ate a high carbohydrate diet lost 7 pounds, and the group that included exercise lost 11 pounds.
The control group that ate more meat and fats did not lose any weight at all.
